Being a former online dater myself one thing I know is dating sites, which ones are good, and how to set yourself up to be as successful as you can be in this exciting community filled with millions of people looking for the same things you are.

One area a lot of people make mistakes when they join an online dating site is in there profile. I hate to admit this but I had to learn the hard way that my profile sucked. For guys this is very important even more so then for the women because if a guy says he is just 'wants to meet someone nice' and that's it he gets labeled right away as a online dating player. Not good if your serious about meeting up with someone. What you have to do is be as open as your willing to be in your profile and talk about your self a bit. What your likes are, dislikes are, if you hate seafood, those kinds of things.

Also another pointer I can give the girls and the guys is to always make sure your profile picture is no older then six months old. Why you ask? Well it's because no one likes meeting someone who's picture does not look like them at all. It is very frustrating and it also gives the online dating community a bad rap. And no you can't use the excuse that you don't have a camera to take a current picture of yourself. Chances are your cell phone has one on it!!!

I know for a fact that Internet dating has had many, many success stories from people who have met online, fall-in in love and got married. Oddly enough the guy who got me involved with online dating met his wife through a dating site. At the time I online dated I was a single full time father of a small boy so it was a great opportunity for me to get out and met some great people.

The best tip I can ever give!

Use common sense while your searching for the right person who sweeps you off your feet. There are some scary people who online date, which is no different then off line but for some odd reason people seem to get suckered by these people more online. I guess they use the right words when they are chatting with you!

If you find someone you like and you are interested in them please be smart about meeting them for the first time and go to a public place in separate cars. Have a nice cup of coffee and see if that person is who they say they are.

One thing I will say that is positive, very positive about the online dating community is that if someone (either a guy or girl) is nothing but a big fat lire and only wants to cause problems for people there names get flamed big time in a lot of the online dating forums and such which kind of ends there chances of meeting someone else. Got to love the power of forums!
