Good People Gather: The Charlene M. Tanner Speakers Series is much more than the title of an event coming to Mercyhurst College this fall; it is a call to action for all those who seek social justice, peace and a healthy environment.

Friday through Sunday, Oct. 12-14, the event brings three of the most compelling voices on the frontlines of environmental advocacy to Erie, Winona LaDuke, Derrick Jensen, and Vandana Shiva. It also features three days of creative activities designed to inspire individuals to face one of the most urgent challenges in the world today: healing and sustaining the environment. Among the offerings are a farmer’s market, performance by the Seneca Allegany River Dancers, scenic hikes, Chi Gung workshop, seed-saving workshop and an atlatl (spear-throwing) tournament. Films: “What a Way to Go:Life at the End of an Empire”, “Seeds of Change”, and “Land of our Ancestors”, a documentary on the forced removal of the Allegheny Seneca Community during the construction of the Kinzua dam.(See attached schedule.)
