Stage II, the intimate, flexible theater space inside the Velma V. Morrison Center, will be renamed the Danny Peterson Theatre in memory of a longtime and much-loved member of Boise's theater community.
Peterson, who was an Boise State alumnus, worked at nearly every theater in the state since 1970s, including Boise Little Theater, Idaho Repertory Theatre, Boise Contemporary Theater and Idaho Theater for Youth.
He helped found the Idaho Shakespeare Festival in 1977 and Idaho Theater for Youth in the 1990s. He went on to become a core company member and one of its most popular actors.
Peterson died suddenly of natural causes July 22 at the age of 55. Since his death family, friends and colleagues have been searching for ways to honor Peterson in the community.
The official naming will happen at a private reception before the opening performance of Will Eno's "Tragedy: A Tragedy" by the BSU theater department Thursday.
